One of my closest friends from childhood, Kuru (short for Kuruvilla) was visiting California from India in June 2001 and I wanted to take him to a completely non-touristy place and I chose Desolation Wilderness. DW is a place I keep going back year after year to backpack and its lakes are one of the best places to spend in the back country. We were accompanied by Vanessa, Jill, Tina and Marlon on this trip. This was one of the best lakes I have visited in the wilderness and we were alone at the lake except for a couple of people on the other side. A short walk from our camp site led us to a small waterfall amidst spectacular vistas of Mt. Tallac and Lake Aloha. This was also one of the few backpacking trips where we lost our way a bit on the Mt. Tallac trail before regaining it.
