During the July 4th weekend in 1999, Angad, Tanny & I went to Yellowstone National Park. We had booked months in advance for a backpacking permit to do an overnighter in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We flew into Salt Lake City, Utah and then drove up to the park through the night. We reached there in the wee hours of the morning and as soon as the office opened, we got our wilderness permit and were on our way. Before we left, however, they showed us a video of the dangers ahead especially with respect to the Grizzly Bear problem. All of us were hiking for the first time in Grizzly country and ended up spending one of the scariest nights of our lives. The place was spectacularly beautiful but our evening was rained out at the primitive camp. We were the only people for miles near the river at the bottom of the canyon. We didn't see any bears and the only wildlife we saw were a couple of deers.
